SAFETY CONCERNS ON SURFACE MINING MACHINES IN AFRICA

Updated: Nov 7, 2023

And Technological solutions that aim to make surface mining safer....

The mining industry in Africa is known for its rich mineral resources and significant economic contributions. However, this sector is also marked by the high risk of accidents, especially in surface mining operations. To address this pressing issue, Reas Electrical is at the forefront of technological solutions that aim to make surface mining safer in Africa.

Surface mining involves the extraction of minerals, ore, and other valuable resources from the earth's surface. It's a vital part of Africa's mining industry, but it comes with significant safety challenges. Accidents in surface mining can result from various factors, including equipment failures, human errors, and adverse working conditions. Let's take a closer look at some concerning statistics:

Fatalities:

The mining industry in Africa experiences a significant number of fatalities each year due to surface mining accidents. These incidents have a devastating impact on families, communities, and the industry as a whole.

Injuries:

Non-fatal injuries are even more prevalent, ranging from minor incidents to severe injuries that can lead to permanent disabilities and impact workers' livelihoods.

Equipment Failures:

Surface mining involves a wide range of heavy machinery and equipment. Failures or malfunctions of these machines can lead to accidents, posing a danger to operators and other personnel.

Human Error:

Human factors, such as operator inexperience, fatigue, or inadequate training, contribute to a significant portion of surface mining accidents.

Improving Surface Mining Safety:

At Reas Electrical we recognize the importance of addressing these challenges in surface mining and is committed to enhancing safety measures in the industry.

Reas Electrical can assist in promoting safety for surface mining machines with our locally designed and rugged tested NSRT TILT MONTITOR SYSTEM.

The NSRT is a system that was developed with idea of improving safety in the vehicles used in mining and earth-moving equipment. With the electronic sense control provided, the safety of vehicles and their operators is enabled to be top priority by monitoring the tilt and roll angles while the vehicle is in use. The NSRT system also enables supervisors to obtain GPS tracking on the vehicle at all times. The NSRT safety system also enables the equipment in use to cut power should the pitch and roll angle of the vehicle exceed what is deemed as safe during use. This cutting-edge technology puts NSRT in a niche of its own. It protects the customer's bottom line with safe practice in terms of the operators driving the equipment, as well as safety of the machinery itself. With the electronic sense control system provided, the safety of vehicles and their operators is made to be top priority in terms of monitoring the tilt and roll angles while the mining vehicle is in use. Our current vision for the NSRT System is to provide safety to as many companies using equipment for mining in Africa. We believe in the ability of the NSRT Safety System to prevent unnecessary damage to company assets, but most importantly to prevent the unnecessary loss of life. The in-built alarm and safety system enables the equipment in use to cut power should the pitch and roll angle of the vehicle exceed what is pre-determined as safe. The safety features of this system enable supervisors to obtain GPS tracking on their mining vehicles / earth moving equipment at all times. This ECSM system works with a touch screen display and a roof antenna that is vandal proof. For information on our state of the art of Tilt Monitoring Device, please click on the icons below…..
